Emergency Preparedness

Ready, Set, Go!

The Ready, Set, Go! program is a wildfire preparedness program developed by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) that provides tools and resources for homeowners to prepare their homes and families for wildfire emergencies. The Cahuilla Fire Department has adopted this program to help residents in the Cahuilla area be better prepared for wildfires.

The program is divided into three simple steps:

READY  |  Create defensible space around your home by removing all dead or dying vegetation within 100 feet of your home. This helps prevent wildfires from spreading to your home and gives firefighters a safe space to defend your property.

SET  |  Create an emergency kit and plan for your family. This kit should include essential items such as food, water, medications, and important documents. It's also important to have a plan for evacuation in case of an emergency.

GO  |  When an evacuation order is given, it's important to leave early and take your emergency kit with you. Make sure to follow all evacuation instructions and leave as soon as possible to ensure your safety.

In addition to these three steps, the Ready, Set, Go! program also provides tips and resources for preparing your home and family for wildfires, including:

Creating a home inventory:

  • Ensuring proper insurance coverage
  • Creating a family communication plan
  • Knowing your community's evacuation routes
  • Understanding the different levels of evacuation orders

The Cahuilla Fire Department encourages all residents to take advantage of the Ready, Set, Go! program and prepare their homes and families for wildfire emergencies. By taking these simple steps, you can help protect yourself and your community in the event of a wildfire.
